One unprotected opening undoes the rest
Once the envelope is breached, wind enters and pressurizes the building from inside, which is how roofs come off buildings whose roofs were adequately designed. A single unprotected louvre, hatch or door can produce that, which is why "every opening" is not rhetorical.
What counts as an opening
- Windows and glazed areas, obviously.
- All doors, including overhead and roll-up.
- Roof hatches and skylights.
- Louvres, air intakes and exhausts.
- Any penetration for equipment or services.
How we handle it
- 01Protect every opening to the specified standard.
- 02Install to the tested assembly, without substitution.
- 03Attend to attachment, which is where assemblies fail.
- 04Verify installation rather than assuming it.
- 05Document every protected opening.
Attachment is where protective assemblies fail. A tested product fixed with the wrong fasteners or into inadequate substrate does not perform as tested, and that failure is invisible until the day it matters.

We will not substitute a component in a tested assembly. Assemblies are tested as systems and a substitution invalidates the performance even where the component looks equivalent.
