For How Long, Carrying What

Backup power for an essential facility means running the whole operation for a realistic duration, not keeping the lights on.

The facility type, whether it is a new build or a hardening project, and the procurement route. That is enough to start.

Operational

Not "survives the storm" — works during and after it

Category IV

A different design standard, not a higher one

Public work

Bonded, documented, formally administered

Licensed

General contractor, licensed in the state of Florida

Sized for life safety, not for operation

A generator sized to the ordinary life safety load carries egress lighting and alarms. An operational facility needs cooling, communications, refrigeration, pumps, kitchens and everything the building actually does — and in Florida the cooling load alone frequently exceeds what a life safety generator was sized for.

What has to be established

  • What must run, honestly listed rather than assumed.
  • For how long, which drives fuel storage volume.
  • Where generation and fuel sit relative to flood elevation.
  • Fuel resupply, and whether it is realistic during an event.
  • Load testing under real conditions, not a start test.

How we handle it

  1. 01Size generation to the actual operational load.
  2. 02Provide fuel storage for the stated duration.
  3. 03Site generation, fuel and switchgear above flood elevation.
  4. 04Commission under full load, not on start-up alone.
  5. 05Hand over a testing regime the operator can follow.

Do not count on fuel resupply during an event. Roads are closed, suppliers are serving everybody at once, and a facility sized on the assumption of a delivery is a facility that runs out — so the on-site storage should cover the realistic duration on its own.

Said plainly

Where we stop

Backup power sized to a reduced load will not keep the facility operational, whatever the drawings call it. We will price the honest load rather than quietly matching a cheaper assumption.

FAQ

Common questions

How big should the generator be?
Sized to what actually has to run, which in Florida includes cooling.
How much fuel?
Enough for the realistic duration without resupply. Roads close and suppliers serve everybody at once.
Where should the generator be?
Above flood elevation, along with fuel and switchgear.
Is a start test enough?
No. Load testing under real conditions.
